Fundraising
As a charity, we are constantly fundraising to help maintain and develop Wirksworth Pool.
What fundraising is doing today
Since becoming a charity in April 2012, we have been supported by some wonderful individuals and organisations who have donated time and money to help us. Our Friends of WSP fundraising team regularly host events, and their Halloween Bingo night has become a popular annual event in our calendar. All profits raised from their activities are split equally between the pool’s current needs and the upgrade funds. Our lovely staff have also taken part in fundraising activities, including running the Chesterfield Half Marathon in 2019, and taking part in the Great North Swim!
Developments
Through a combination of fundraising, donations and bequests and applying for grant funding, we have been able to make considerable improvements to the pool in recent years. These include:
- A new reception area
- A new changing room
- A new entrance covering and buggy shelter
- An accessible toilet and shower facilities
- New windows and cladding throughout the building
- Improvement to the pool surrounds and tiling
- Replacement of all the plant and filtration equipment including a new ultra-violet water system
We are incredibly grateful to all the organisations and individuals who have supported the pool over recent years, and they are recognised on a plaque in our reception area. Particularly generous donations have been received from John and Sheila Kirkland, and when regular customer Sheila passed away, we received a generous bequest. In recognition of the importance of her involvement with the pool, Trustees took the decision to rename it as The Sheila Kirkland Community Pool.
Support for future plans
Our next big project will be to replace the roof of the pool, as the existing one is over 36 years old.
Please get involved
As a small charity, with an even smaller team, every bit of help fundraising makes a significant difference. Please make enquiries today about ways you can help.
